Friday, Feb. 3 6-10 p.m. Friday Night Plunge Party featuring the local band Butter Saturday, Feb. 4 5-9 p.m. 20th Anniversary Saturday Night Beach Bash Since its inception 19 years ago, more than 30,000 plungers have raised more than $6.5 million for Special Olympics Virginia. When you take the plunge, you’ll be helping us provide year-round training and athletic competition to more than 10,000 athletes of all ages. Children and adults with intellectual disabilities who participate in Special Olympics develop improved physical fitness and motor skills, greater self-confidence and a more positive self-image.

It was an affair to remember for the more than 500 guests who were lucky enough to snag a ticket to the sold-out Noblemen Red Hot Valentine’s Ball on February 11. Held since 2005 at the magnificent Cavalier Hotel on the Hill in Virginia Beach, the Ball has become one of the most visible and well-attended galas in the area. Supporters come to celebrate Valentine’s Day, and to toast the Noblemen’s ongoing efforts to raise money for local children’s charities. Thousands Plunge for Special Olympics Wanted: Individuals to help raise money for a great cause. Requirements: Must be able to withstand cold temperatures. Goofy outfits not necessary, but preferred. No experience necessary, but must have a warm heart. Apply in person. More than 3,500 people answered the call to help raise money for Special Olympics Virginia at this year’s Virginia Beach Polar Plunge even if… or from the look of things, because… a plunge into the frigid Atlantic was part of the bargain. Dressed in creative costumes, from superhero outfits, to belly dancers, adult diapers, and Vikings gear, participants helped raise $1.12 million – an event record, according to Special Olympics President, Rick Jeffrey.
