Unique Black-Tie Bowling Charity Event Attracts Young Hampton Roads Philanthropists

Unique Black-Tie Bowling Charity Event Attracts Young Hampton Roads Philanthropists More than 250 people came ready to strike out Alzheimer’s disease at the Young Adults for Alzheimer’s Awareness (YAAA!) For a Cure Black-Tie Bowling held at the AMF Chesapeake Lanes in Chesapeake, VA on March 2. Sold out for the third year straight, YAAA! For a Cure Black Tie Bowling has become one of the more buzz-worthy to-dos of the South Hampton Roads spring charity events season. And for good reason. Though for a serious cause – raising money for Alzheimer’s awareness, research, and support services – the event doesn’t take itself seriously. As the name suggests, it is a black-tie affair. Kids Art Draws Hundreds at 11th Annual ForKids Art Auction & Casino Night

Kids Art Draws Hundreds at 11th Annual ForKids Art Auction & Casino Night The bidding reached a frenzied pitch. “$4,000. Do I hear $5,000? $5,500? $6,000… We have $6,000!” cried the auctioneer. “How about $6,500? We’ve got $6,500 from the lovely lady. $7,000? I see $7,000! How about $7,500? C’mon ladies and gentlemen. You know you want this! We have $7,500! $7,500 going once! $7,500 going twice! SOLD! To the cowboy in the back of the room! For… Seven… Thousand… Dollars!” The crowd roared! So, what was it that had fetched such a handsome sum at the ForKids Art Auction & Casino Night held in a packed Norfolk Waterside Marriot ballroom on Saturday, March 24? Was it Lot #12 – “A Sunset Cruise & Dinner Party” for 10 aboard a 53’ yacht? No. Then, surely, it must’ve been Lot #10 – “A Landmark English Vacation” in historic Bath, England! Nope. This cowboy was not interested. What the cowboy (pictured above) wanted, and what set ...

MyHelpMyHope Charity and Boys and Girls Clubs Southeastern Virginia Partner for Successful Youth Empowerment Convention More than 215 local youth attend the inaugural “Empowering Our Youth” Convention held on December 8, 2012 at the Rosemont Unit of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia. The “Empowering Our Youth” Convention was a collaborative effort between MyHelpMyHope Charity, a small Virginia Beach non-profit, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southeast Virginia and was offered free of charge to registered youth and others in the community. Empowering Our Youth was the first of what MyHelpMyHope founder Catherine Staton hopes will become a semi-annual gathering for youth, bringing in powerful and influential individuals from the community and beyond who want to make a difference in their lives. “We [want] our youth to walk away with the right tools and resources [that will prepare them] for the future,” Staton said. The half day convention program included educational workshops and programs that ...
